General Information

About Our Department

Approved by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) during its meeting dated April 14, 2010, in accordance with Article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547 as amended by Law No. 2880, the Department of Computer Engineering under the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University commenced its academic life in the 2020-2021 academic year with an intake quota of 40 students. The medium of instruction is Turkish, with an optional English preparatory class available upon student request.

Computer Engineering Professional Fields and Career Opportunities

As a symbol of the information and communication age we live in, computers have become an indispensable part of our daily lives. The increasing use of computers across every field—from education to shopping, and from manufacturing to entertainment—heightens the demand for well-trained experts who can consciously utilize computer technology.

Computer engineers design, develop, and implement computer technologies for a wide range of industrial, commercial, military, and consumer-oriented applications. They find employment opportunities across numerous sectors, ranging from government agencies to the private sector, and from education to consultancy. In fact, it is difficult to find a company today that does not rely on computer engineering for its products and systems.

Currently, computer engineers widely work in emerging application areas of computing, such as digital television and photography, virtual meeting technologies, smart highways, control systems, modern automotive technologies, smartphones, security systems, telescopes, aircraft, and spacecraft. Computer engineers typically collaborate in teams with other engineers and professionals from diverse disciplines. Some of the sectors where computer engineers can work include:

  • Software product and service development,

  • Computer networks, wireless sensor networks, smart grids, and smartphones,

  • Information management systems and decision support systems,

  • Customer services, internet banking, ATMs, stock markets, investment decisions, and insurance planning,

  • Consumer electronics,

  • Automotive manufacturing and production planning,

  • Transportation services, flight planning, and more.

In addition to the career opportunities listed above, Computer Engineering graduates also have the opportunity to pursue an academic career. As a department of computer engineering, we fulfill the following objectives:

  • Teaching the theoretical foundations of computer sciences as a scientific discipline,

  • Examining the methods for creating and processing mathematical models of problems as an engineering discipline,

  • Utilizing and teaching modern software/hardware tools and methods developed to solve problems as an applied engineering discipline.
